Every kid deserves to ride a bike

...

On my 40th birthday I will lose many of my Facebook friends.

I decided I don't want to spend money on a lavish 40th birthday party. Nor do I want my friends to waste their money on my birthday presents. I want to do something with a meaning. Something that feels both good and right. I decided to help children in need. And I'm dragging my Facebook friends with me.

On my 40th birthday, to remain my Facebook friend, you need to pay 20NIS.

It's not a new tax or a membership fee. It's also not a double present request - to be clear, I don't want any other presents for my birthday. All I want is to collect enough money to be able and buy bicycles for kids that can't afford them. Kids that I met at the Lilach NPO. Kids that can only dream of a new bike.

The cost of a bike & helmet is 300NIS. My goal is to buy at least 40 bikes and assemble them together with the kids. If you read enough and don't want to suffer more of my babbling, click on the red donation button now.

Sure, I could have simply asked for donations,
without threatening to erase FB friends.

That's right - whoever won't donate, will be no longer remain my FB friend. A bit extreme, and I can see how some might interpret it as a drama queen begging for attention, but I see it as an opportunity to differentiate between so called friends and real friends. I tried to think of a reasons why a FB friend of mine wouldn't be willing to donate 20NIS to such a nobel cause, and come up with four:

1. You didn't see my request
Possible, though I am spamming the heck out of my Facebook page and will send an email. Actually Three. If you still didn't see it, you're probably not active on Facebook anyway and wouldn't notice my social absence.

2. You don't feel like it
That's your right. No one can decide for you to whom to donate and how much. But, if our friendship has any meaning for you, then look at it this way: You are buying me the most wonderful birthday present, which you know I won't return.

3.You suspect I will use the money to fund my next vacation
All I can offer is my word that the money will all go to the kids.
And if my word isn't enough, I have no idea why we're FB friends in the first place.

4.You don't even remember approving my friendship request
This is you chance to get rid of me! And you can still donate anonymously.

To donate, click the red button now.

On my 40th birthday I might lose many Facebook friends,
But those that will stay are definitely worth it!

The donation page might only accept NIS.
You can also donate U$D to my Paypal account erezruby@gmail.com
But donating via the Give2gether page would be preferred.

Thanks,

Erez Rubinstein (almost 40)
